Director Justin Lin made a good Fast and Furious movie - only draw back the movie was supposed to be Star Trek and not Fast & Furious.<br/><br/>Classic example of how wrong choice of directors can ruin a legendary epic.<br/><br/>Gene Roddenberry would be turning in his grave seeing how Paramount is hell bent of destroying Star Trek.<br/><br/>There was nothing Star Trek like in this movie - Big disappointment<br/><br/>First movies in this new season was good , the second one was watchable and created hope the third one would revive the Star Trek franchise.<br/><br/>However Compared to this latest edition , I would say the Star Trek Next Generation movies were a master piece.<br/><br/>Better to watch rerun of the old TV series , even Voyager series than wasting your money on this.
Star Trek Beyond contained all the elements of the previous Star Trek Films, and nothing more. As muchI enjoyed the first two installments, I was unable to find the same joy in this rehash, and poorly drawn out, version of Star Trek into Darkness. <br/><br/>Without giving too much away, and following a very predictable plot, the main antagonist Krall is hell bent on saving humanity from themselves using the simple and well thought out plan of destroying humanity( I never quite understand this logic ). With little to no motivation or back story that would surmount the type of anger Krall would need to end all life, he spends the majority of his existence searching for an ancient biological weapon capable of ending civilizations across the galaxy. Krall ambushes Quirk and Co in the films opening and the crew is separated, the majority of which have been captured by Krall on his planet, and the few remaining characters to progress the story are left to locate their mates and set them free. The bulk of the film will be spent on this sole task until finally reaching the climatic and eye popping finale.<br/><br/>Putting the plot aside, if you go into the theater solely to feed your appetite for exciting explosions and great visuals, you will find enjoyment from this film. If what you need is a thought provoking story that feels fresh and original, perhaps pass this one up.
A return to fun, and a return to form for the new version of the old Trek. The 13th Trek movie is also the second good odd-numbered instalment in a row. Lucky for some.
The movie does not provide an answer to what happened to Carol Marcus (<a href="/name/nm1404408/">Alice Eve</a>). She was still aboard the Enterprise at the end of <a href="/title/tt1408101/">Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)</a> when the ship left for its 5-year mission, stating that she was happy to be part of the "Enterprise family". Star Trek Beyond takes place 2.5 years after Star Trek Into Darkness, but Carol Marcus is not referenced in the movie. According to behind-the-scenes stories, Carol Marcus was scheduled to re-appear on Star Trek Beyond in the early script stages, based on ideas from producer <a href="/name/nm0009190/">J.J. Abrams</a>. The movie was initially conceiveda direct sequel to Into Darkness and would follow-up on some of the plot elements introduced in that movie. However, during pre-production, writer and initial director <a href="/name/nm0649460/">Roberto Orci</a> left, and writing duties were taken over by <a href="/name/nm1136647/">Doug Jung</a> and <a href="/name/nm0670408/">Simon Pegg</a>. When this new team chose to take the story in a totally different direction, most of the ties to Into Darkness were also removed. Carol Marcus' presence was probably omitted because they could not fit her into the new story. According to Eve herself, there is still a good possibility that her character will make an appearance in future Star trek movies.
